Copper is an adorable little 7 and a half week old Labrador/Boxer/Shepherd/Pit mix. He was born on January 26th along with 11 other siblings. His mother is Honey a beautiful Lab mix. Copper of course for his color, he is also easy to spot with the heart on his chest. He loves to chase everyone around including us humans. The pups will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before going to their families. The siblings are Joan, Anastasia, Chess, Chewbacca, Cornelius, Elsa, Goldie #2, Missy, Tippy, Tuggel and Warf. We think they may be in the range of 35 to 55 pounds when full grown. There is no way of knowing for sure so if you are interested in one of them you need to be able to be happy and live with either size when they are full grown. We do not want to see them returned if they grow more than you thought. They are all happy, healthy and playful puppies.

Coriander

Coriander

Coriander is a Redbone Hound mix female, spayed, shots, wormed. Dumped over a fence in Atwater, had been starved. The lady who saved her fattened her up, and took her to a foster home in Valley Springs. Her foster mom reports she is very sweet and loves to be petted and hugged. She gets startled very easily. Cori learned to house train quickly, and is afraid of confined spaces, so does not crate. Looks like she was neglected in the past, did not get enough to eat, so can be jealous of her food around other dogs. Around strangers, she is very shy, and would benefit from some social interaction. Cori has never shown any growling or snapping with people. You can take food from her, or put your hand in her bowl while eating. Very gently takes food from your fingers. She gets along with other dogs. With cats, she is curious and doesn’t show any sign of wanting to chase them. If you scold her, she will skulk off and need to be cajoled to come back to you. Once she gets to know you, she follows or hangs around you, keeping you within view. She does take her cues on how to behave from other dogs. The foster mom is working with her so she’s not so freaked-out when she gets adopted. The persons adopting her need to be gently understanding of her fear of being punished and her sensitivity towards a raised voice. She is gentle and sincere. She has a lot of gentle love to give!

Bourke

Bourke

Bourke is looking for a very special forever home. He came to Walnut Street in Stockton at the end of the summer, but no one knew from where. One story is that he lived on a derelict barge that floated in the canal for months until it was abandoned and removed. Another story is that he belonged to an older couple that died and the dog was abandoned. The only thing known for sure is that he found many new friends on Walnut Street where he played all day and guarded Walnut Street all night. He had his meals at several different homes and got to know most of the neighbors and their pets. He is a playful and intelligent "homeless survivor" that has touched our hearts. Bourke is shy and becoming socialized because of his experiences as a homeless dog. Bourke is an intelligent, 8 to 12 month old Terrier mix and he weighs 16 pounds. He is neutered, current on his shots and will be microchipped. Bourke has escaped many dangerous situations because he is able to squeeze through very small spaces. He needs a securely fenced yard and basic obedience training. He protected the neighborhood from strangers. He chases skateboards or bicycles. We assume that he started life in a family setting because he is responding to his foster family home. He wags his tail and is quick to make friends with small neighborhood dogs but has been known to chase cats. It is unknown if he is house broken; we hope to move him to a foster home where he can be inside soon or find a family to adopt him and make him a house dog. He loves toys, chew bones and rope pulls. Neighbors have spent hours enjoying his playful antics. He needs love, patience and a gentle hand.

Kaylee

Kaylee

Kaylee, is a pretty little Terrier mix female; she only weighs about 24 lbs at 10 months old. Whatever her breed is, she is mixed with something small and will be a smaller medium-sized dog when she is full grown. She is social and friendly with the people she meets. She wandered into a Good Samaritan's yard one day looking for someone to love her. Little Kaylee is current on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. While at the vet office, she did show interest in the vet office cat. (However, due to her young age, an experienced owner might be able to work with her to teach her that cats are off limits.) Her foster mom says that she does well with her current 5 year old spayed female Queensland Heeler mix and her larger breed neutered male German Shorthaired Pointer. A meet and greet might tell us how she does with your family or other pets. Kaylee rides well in the car and walks very well on a leash. Her foster mom says that she is doing very well on her house-training manners. She is a lot of personality in a small package. We think that Kaylee would make someone an excellent companion and friend. She is all white with some black speckling on her ears. She is very friendly with people and rolls on her back for a big belly rub with children. (She does jump up when she is excited; a habit that should easy to break as she responds well to training.) She is crate-trained, rides well in the car and does well on a leash. She has done well at adoption events in the presence of other dogs. (We are still getting to know her but we think that she does best with dogs that are slightly larger than her.) However, she seems fine being kenneled next to Sarah, a confident Chihuahua/Terrier mix female, and does not try to intimidate or challenge her. This is a courtesy posting for another organization, her adoption fee will be reduced. You can email for more information to rescue@friendsofcanines.org or go to their Web site www.friendsofcanines.org.
